Israel feeds misinformation that Iran wants to kill him
One somewhat entertaining aspect of having Donald J Trump as president is the frequency of his absurd remarks or actions throughout any given week, often provoking a smile or even laughter. Sadly, the amusement fades when considering the chaos his erratic behavior wreaks on the White House and much of Washington, D.C. Beyond that, it drags the United States into costly conflicts against essentially harmless foes, squandering trillions of taxpayer dollars and precipitating economic and political turmoil that could severely destabilize the world, as exemplified by the current tensions with Iran.
Recently, Trump launched his usual tirades against Iran, fueled by Israeli-intelligence claims alleging Iranian plans to assassinate him. This came on the heels of renewed hostilities near the Strait of Hormuz and Trump’s disparaging reference to Iran’s leaders as “scum.” Whereas a responsible leader might have sought to de-escalate, Trump persistently escalates tensions rather than seeking diplomatic solutions.
Trump should have dismissed the assassination claims outright, recognizing that anything sourced from Israel is automatically suspect. In this particular instance, those unfounded accusations aimed to spark a new phase of open conflict between the US and Iran, exactly the outcome Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu desires. Instead, Trump raged that should Iran kill him, the repercussions would be severe for Tehran—though he expressed it less diplomatically. His approach, failing at negotiation, defaults to irrational threats of complete annihilation against opponents.
On Friday, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that “1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME! Orders have already been given, and the US Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran – PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!”
At the Ron Paul website, Kurt Nimmo critiques this statement as another example of Trump’s exaggerated self-importance. He explains how “Naturally, ME is in caps. Because Donald Trump is, for him and his shrinking legion of MAGA exponents, the alpha and omega, the be-all and end-all of morality and integrity. The very thought that he may be assassinated, after pulling off a mob-like hit on Iran’s Supreme Leader, is malefaction writ large.”
Since it is commonly acknowledged that the US military is depleting its preferred arsenal for use against Iran, Trump may well be bluffing about the strength of his war readiness, as usual. Additionally, his threats are peppered with bombastic language and linguistic errors. He declares an intent to “decimate and destroy all areas of Iran,” disregarding the difficulty in conquering a populous nation with significant defense capabilities. Moreover, Trump seems unaware of the original meaning of “decimate,” which comes from the Latin practice of executing one in every ten soldiers in a unit for poor performance—a concept hardly applicable to his military threats. So, is he planning to punish his troops harshly if they fail, or commit war crimes by killing captured Iranians? The question remains open.
Another narrative has re-emerged about the White House, which Trump both glorifies and gradually dismantles, apparently oblivious that it is a government property supported by taxpayers and serves as his temporary home while in office. Often called the “People’s House,” it does not belong to Trump any more than the Kennedy Center, the Institute of Peace, or the historic cherry trees along the Potomac being destroyed to build an unnecessary golf course bearing the name of America’s most unpopular president. Not to mention the massive Trump arch he’s constructing to block the view from the Lincoln Memorial to Arlington National Cemetery. And there’s also his repeated, dubious claims that he deserves the Congressional Medal of Honor for military valor despite having “bone spurs(?)” that exempted him from service during the Vietnam War era when many others were drafted.
Returning to the White House, reports indicate that Trump has taken to showing select guests around privileged sections, intending to impress them. According to one account, described as “deranged,” about a year ago he took German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to the so-called “Lewinsky Room,” a small office near the Resolution Desk in the presidential suite. Trump acted as a gleeful guide, explaining that this was the place where former White House intern Monica Lewinsky allegedly performed oral sex on President Bill Clinton during the 1990s. According to Trump’s telling, he would remark, “I’m told this is where Bill and Monica…”
That same room now serves as a display area for Donald Trump and MAGA merchandise, with shelves lined with Trump caps and other memorabilia the president offers to visitors as gifts from the “world’s most powerful man.” There are also boxes of Florsheim dress shoes, a favorite of Trump’s, which he not only wears but also handed out to several top Cabinet members last spring. These shoes appear mandatory for those hoping to remain in Trump’s favor, much like his entire roster of appointees is expected to abide by the leader’s so-called “genius,” no matter how ridiculous the situation. After showing the “secret” room filled with personal and MAGA items to Chancellor Merz, Trump reportedly invited the guests to “Just grab whatever you want,” boasting that their wives could eventually sell these items for “thousands of dollars.”
Finally, revisiting earlier events in the week, President Trump also attended a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, where he alienated key allies by insisting the alliance’s purpose was to support any war the US chooses to launch. He apparently does not grasp that NATO was created as a defensive pact among nations and was never intended to wage war against countries posing no direct threat. Trump further rekindled his bizarre comments about acquiring Greenland from Denmark and reportedly proposed adjusting the border with Canada.
Moreover, Trump remains under the influence of Israel and its powerful domestic lobby, notably backed by billionaire donors like Miriam Adelson, who finance the corruption that enables him and his sons to profit from insider trading. Trump consistently acts in line with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s agenda, including escalating the brutal conflict with Iran, which he has started intensifying bombing campaigns against. Unconfirmed reports have surfaced about the US preparing to deploy troops to assist Israel in dismantling Hezbollah in Lebanon—anticipated to become the next target following Gaza and Israel’s southward expansion toward the Damascus outskirts in Syria. There are also troubling rumors suggesting the potential use of nuclear weapons against Iran and others might be contemplated within Israeli and American strategic plans. What happens next remains to be seen.
