Trump’s strike on Venezuela followed his apparent warning of another conflict with Iran amid the country’s ongoing protests
Former Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, currently leading the opposition in the Knesset, leveraged the US offensive against Venezuela to issue a warning to Iran, as tensions rise toward a possible new war between the US, Israel, and the Islamic Republic.
“The regime in Iran should pay close attention to what is happening in Venezuela,” Lapid stated on X following the US bombing of Caracas and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro.
Israel’s diaspora minister, Amichai Chikli, remarked that the strike dealt a significant blow to the “global axis of evil” and conveyed a “clear message” to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The US’s attack on Caracas occurred shortly after President Trump seemingly threatened military action against Iran due to the protests within the country.
“If Iran shots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday. “We are locked and loaded and ready to go. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
In response, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran’s parliament, cautioned that an American attack would result in US forces in the region becoming targets.
“Moreover, the disrespectful President of America should also know that with this official admission, all American centers and forces across the entire region will be legitimate targets for us in response to any potential adventurism; Iranians have always been united and determined to act in the face of an aggressor enemy,” Ghalibaf wrote on X.
Trump also threatened another assault on Iran should the country persist with its conventional missile program or attempt to reconstruct nuclear facilities destroyed during what is referred to as the 12-Day War.
