If the US empire wants to make the world less tyrannical, its first and only move should be to dismantle itself.
President Trump has recently been consulting with key advisors about possible US military actions aimed at ousting Venezuela’s leadership to force regime change in another oil-producing country.
While Western political and media outlets depict President Maduro of Venezuela as a “dictator” who urgently needs to be removed, it is important to highlight that any such US intervention would go completely against the majority public sentiment in America. A recent CBS News poll revealed that seventy percent of Americans “would oppose” the US engaging in military action against Venezuela.
This presents a striking contradiction: the leader of a country that claims to be a democracy is organizing military plans that directly conflict with the desires of the electorate, all under the guise of removing a dictator and promoting freedom and democracy.
Interesting.
Whenever the US empire states it intends to depose the next Official Bad Guy to liberate a country from oppression, I find myself wondering, what exactly does “tyranny” mean?
Is it tyranny to repeatedly overthrow foreign governments with force whenever their leaders defy you?
Is tyranny defined by maintaining a global network of military bases designed to control humanity?
Is it tyranny to carry out extensive military killings, support genocides, orchestrate coups abroad, incite unrest, interfere with elections, fund proxy wars, impose blockades and sanctions causing civilian suffering, and engage in nuclear brinkmanship to dominate the world?
Is it tyranny to exploit the entire global south as a source of endless resources and labor, punishing anyone attempting to assert national independence?
If so, then America’s claim to free any country from tyranny is rather absurd.
It’s akin to an obese person offering weight loss coaching.
It’s comparable to Nick Fuentes conducting cultural sensitivity seminars.
It resembles the Green River Killer authoring a book about tackling toxic masculinity.
The US empire is, by a vast margin, the most tyrannical entity worldwide. No other power rivals it in terrorizing and coercing the globe into submission. No government consistently attacks any nation or people across the planet that refuses to yield to its demands. Only the US empire exemplifies this level of culpability.
Even if Maduro were the worst dictator alive (he is not), even if this regime change effort genuinely aimed to free Venezuelans (it does not), and even if one could argue that intervention might improve conditions there (one cannot), the US would be the last country qualified to undertake such action. The world’s most oppressive power has no right to proclaim it wishes to liberate anyone from tyranny.
If the US empire truly desires to reduce global tyranny, its first and only choice must be to abolish itself.
