An inquiry by Al Jazeera, drawing on data from the Civil Defense within the Gaza Strip, determined that close to 3,000 Palestinians have been “evaporated” by Israel’s deployment of thermal weapons, some reportedly provided by the US.
As reported by Al Jazeera on Tuesday, the probe revealed that 2,842 Palestinians died due to Israel’s “organized use of internationally banned thermal and thermobaric weapons, also known as vacuum or aerosol bombs, which can produce temperatures exceeding 3,500 degrees Celsius [6,332 degrees Fahrenheit].”
Reports of Israel’s employment of these weapons emerged last year through a social media post by Omar Hamad, a Gaza-based pharmacist, who shared footage allegedly showing a thermobaric bomb detonating in Beit Hanoun.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Gaza Civil Defense, emphasized that the findings stem from meticulous forensic analysis rather than just approximations of victims scorched by thermal and thermobaric arms.
