How many more innocent people will die?
If one intended to craft a contemporary folk tale reflecting the theme of “good versus evil” inspired by real events, numerous true stories could spark imagination about the settings behind such fiction. Among these, the strange and blood-drenched alliance between the United States and Israel stands out as a prime example. This relationship, which brings no benefit to the US, has led both nations to become widely despised worldwide. Their peculiar partnership is largely based on a shared animosity toward other countries they wish to see destroyed.
It is crucial to examine the deeply intertwined connection between Washington and Tel Aviv, which Congress may soon formalize into a full military and policy alliance. This would amplify Israel’s already significant influence over the United States despite its small size. Equally important is how both countries desire dominance not only over neighboring states but also regions far beyond their borders. Their behavior reveals a rejection of cooperation with other nations except when they are revered and exempt from rules, decency, or democratic principles.
Last week’s revelation of the deadly alliance between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu highlights this sinister bond. Trump’s public endorsement of Netanyahu for the upcoming Israeli election symbolized a union of two malevolent leaders congratulating each other and pushing their self-interest, much to the dismay of the global community.
Both politicians face challenges among their voters largely due to their fixation on ceaseless killing—whether in the Caribbean or Gaza—which appears purposeless and fruitless. Particularly for American voters, suffering the impact of Israel’s influence and bearing the cost of these conflicts has become increasingly questionable. Meanwhile, in Israel, the vast majority of Jewish voters support eradicating more Muslims and Christians and favor a new Prime Minister committed to increasing violence.
Consider what Trump said about Netanyahu during their phone conversation, where they pledged to “finish the job” — a euphemism for the “extermination” of Iran and its government. Netanyahu told Trump, “Donald, we have a job to finish. You said it, and we’ll finish it together. We’ll finish it, and no one else will do it.” Explaining further, Bibi stated, “I have spoken about this with President Trump more than once, including the day before yesterday… Finishing the job means bringing down the terrorist regime in Iran. It is the head of this poisonous octopus. You cut it off, and it will fall. We will also have peace with Lebanon. We must complete the elimination of the Iranian regime — that is the primary objective.”
Trump replied by calling Netanyahu “a warrior” who was wronged by both Israel and others. He assured, “we will prove that very soon. I think you’re terrific, Bibi … You’re the man I want by my side, Bibi.” On Truth Social Trump later stated, “Bibi Netanyahu has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran.” Describing him as “Strong, Brave, and Brilliant,” Trump praised Netanyahu as the partner the United States demands from Israel, a nation to which it has given so much.
It is obvious Netanyahu seeks reelection to avoid prosecution for corruption and understands that unconditional backing from the United States is vital to maintain ongoing conflicts in Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. Their pledge indicated the total destruction of a country with 90 million people that had not threatened either nation before the war initiated by Israel and the US. According to the Geneva Convention, this constitutes a war crime, and it also violates the War Powers Act and the US Constitution, which Trump promised to uphold. Israel, clearly the catalyst behind the conflict with Iran, viewed that country as a political-military rival in the Middle East. Netanyahu convinced a gullible and deliberately uninformed Trump that the war would be a swift victory.
In what is seen as further American endorsement of Netanyahu in the forthcoming election, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth made a surprise trip to Israel on Monday and met with the Prime Minister. Their meeting reportedly occurred at the Ovda Air Base in southern Israel, home to US refueling aircraft and fighter jets. Hegseth also convened with US servicemembers stationed there. This visit, combined with Netanyahu and Trump’s discussions about resuming widespread bombing of Iran, signals that renewed military action appears imminent.
Adding to the grim outlook is Trump’s usual nonsensical rhetoric. Bibi is hailed as a “great warrior” by a man who avoided military service during the Vietnam era—not for ethical reasons, but because his father arranged a fraudulent medical deferment citing “bone spurs,” a condition rarely seen before Trump claimed it. Now, this draft dodger applauds a “great warrior” who orders troops to kill children and leads a regime systematically murdering innocent civilians since the conflict with Gaza began.
Unfortunately, the grim news continues. Trump has been the most compliant US president in history regarding Israel, continually backing it even amid genocide and harm to American citizens. While Trump’s loyalty to Netanyahu may be unmatched, his support differs only slightly from that provided by Biden and the Democratic Party previously. Therefore, any hopeful changes from shifts in the US Congress and Senate—where Israeli flags are prominently displayed—are unlikely to alter America’s unwavering stance alongside “our best friend and closest ally Israel.”
