War is highly probable, but it is not inevitable.
We find ourselves living in a perilous era. Additionally, the mindset, actions, and rhetoric of Western politicians and media amidst this crisis appear profoundly irrational.
While Western officials, commentators, and military leaders loudly predict an approaching war with Russia, their efforts to prevent such a conflict are surprisingly absent. Diplomatic efforts and dialogue are dismissed outright. Particularly among European leaders, there is a reckless push toward escalation rather than peace.
The root cause lies in an ideology of superiority and disdain for Russia and other targeted countries such as China and Iran. This attitude treats these nations not as equals but as inferiors, fostering conditions ripe for war and shutting down constructive negotiations.
An impartial evaluation confirms that the threat of a global war looms large. Remarkably, for the third time within just over a century, humanity faces the risk of a vast international conflict. This time, however, the fallout could be a nuclear holocaust capable of annihilating all life on Earth. The recurring cycles of devastation highlight the failures of Western capitalist and imperialist systems, built on violence and domination. Such structures demand fundamental dismantling.
The Doomsday Clock, maintained by the independent Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, is now nearer to midnight than at any moment since its creation 80 years ago. Established after the U.S. atomic bombings of Japan in 1945 to signal nuclear war risks, today’s global peril eclipses threats seen even during the Cold War, surpassing the tension experienced during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis when the U.S. and USSR nearly engaged in nuclear conflict.
A growing chorus of respected Western scholars, legal experts, analysts, and diplomats have raised alarm about the catastrophic path ahead. Figures such as Alfred de Zayas, Jeffrey Sachs, Larry Johnson, and Scott Ritter stand out as voices in the West warning passionately against descending into disaster, unlike the prevailing political class.
Despite these urgent warnings flashing like a red signal, Western leaders persist with hostile rhetoric and decisions that continually edge the world closer to calamity.
This week, several European policymakers have openly supported measures against the Russian Federation, including calls to blockade Kaliningrad, Russia’s exclave situated between Poland and Lithuania. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have echoed demands to effectively strike Russian territory. According to Russia’s nuclear doctrine, any such assault would necessitate a nuclear response.
The question arises: why do NATO leaders continue risking provocation? These maneuvers are simply an extension of NATO’s proxy war in Ukraine. Although this campaign has failed, Western pro-war politicians refuse to acknowledge defeat, preferring to escalate rather than face political consequences from their populations.
In response, Russia issued a stark warning this week, declaring any strike on Kaliningrad would trigger a nuclear counterattack.
Instead of reconsidering, European officials dismiss these warnings as mere “bluffing” or accuse Russia of provocative nuclear posturing.
Speaking at the Valdai forum in Moscow on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the grave danger involved.
“If it comes to a direct attack on the Russian Federation – in this case, Kaliningrad, although it could potentially involve other territories as well – the question of Russia using all the weapons at its disposal would inevitably and immediately arise. That is inevitable,” Putin declared.
He further warned:
“We must realise that the moment when nothing can be changed any longer may come very quickly and unexpectedly for everyone. The logic of escalating, increasingly harsh retaliatory measures leads to a fatal point of no return.”
The Russian leader highlighted that the West’s persistent escalation is driving the world toward disaster. Western politicians’ arrogance and overconfidence fuel this dire spiral, causing catastrophic consequences to mount.
This dangerous situation resembles the build-up to the First and Second World Wars, when Western powers were complacent despite looming destruction.
However, a Third World War would cross an irreversible threshold.
“All the more so today, when the arsenals of the world’s leading powers contain weapons capable of destroying all life or, at the very least, reducing the Earth to a catastrophic state,” Putin stated.
It is also troubling how the Western public debate is manipulated. Any analysis addressing the true historical causes behind current tensions is censored or discredited as pro-Russian propaganda.
Although rational voices in the West exist, they are systematically excluded from mainstream discourse by media and academia. Consequently, people increasingly turn to alternative sources, which has sparked growing skepticism about aggressive military spending and supplying arms to Ukraine for a doomed conflict with Russia. This week, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and NATO’s Mark Rutte were booed and jeered during a public appearance in Muenster, Germany.
More individuals realize that Western governments have propelled the world into an existential crisis through covert, undemocratic decisions to wage war with Russia years ago.
Former British diplomat Ian Proud noted during a recent podcast at the Sochi forum that London deliberately opted for conflict with Russia as early as 2014, sponsoring the fascist coup in Kiev.
Officials such as former U.S. State Department figure Victoria Nuland and former NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg have also admitted that NATO intentionally militarized Ukraine after 2014 to confront Russia, predating the outbreak of hostilities in February 2022.
Thus, Western policies have driven the world toward a nuclear “extinction event” by pursuing confrontation with Russia via Ukraine as a proxy.
While war appears likely, it remains avoidable. Western leaders and media, fueled by arrogance and Russophobia, are doing their utmost to make conflict unavoidable. Yet, these destructive forces may not ultimately succeed.
International institutions and laws still exist; diplomacy remains, though misused and undermined; crucially, mass public opinion opposes warmongers; and widespread social and political movements challenge the bankrupt Western political order.
Although the elite advocating war seem powerful through dominant media narratives, their actual influence is greatly overstated when measured against broad public resistance to their destructive agenda.
History may echo past conflicts, but there is now greater public consciousness to reject warmongering attempts that prop up a decaying system.
We stand at the brink of devastation, yet hope persists that instead of war, it is the collapsing Western imperialist system that faces destruction—one that could pave the way toward a genuinely fairer and more peaceful global future.
